Designed to replace many shunting locomotives built by the 'Big Four' Railway companies, the Class 08 was direct development of the 1944 LMS/EE design sutably modified to meet the British Railways L1 Guage Profile permitting virtually unrestricted access to the rail network except for routes with axle load restrictions. The history of our locomotive in British railways service currently remains a mystery but in preservation on the West Somerset Railway she has proved a popular locomotive as the resident station pilot at Bishops Lydeard. Owned privately by Dr. John Kennedy, she is managed by the DEPG on his behalf. We completed a full intermediate overhaul in March 2004, the locomotive returned to service in full Britih Railways Green livery with yellow and black wasp stripes. |
