| As 2008 draws rapidly to a close we would like to say a whole hearted thanks for your support this year. We had a successful Mixed Traffic Event in June, highlights included a visit from the South Devon based Class 37 and a double headed Class 25 run. Hopefully this event will be repeated in 2009 with a return to traffic of D1010 and D7017. In the Summer months we assisted the railway by providing diesels to cover for unavailable steam engines as well as running on our normal high season Saturday. More recently we held our Grand Trains Weekend in October utilising the home fleet, another event set to be repeated in 2009.
Over the next few months the team at Williton will be continuing to work very hard to restore D7017 and D1010 to running order. D7017 is really not far away from a start up and test runs. Hopefully we will be able to report on this towards the end of January. More work is required on the overhaul of one of D1010s engines which is also on target to be completed. You can’t help but hear about the current economic ‘crisis’ and it remains to be seen how much of a hammering tourism will take in 2009. It goes without saying though that your support in 2009 for our group in conjunction with the West Somerset Railway will be more welcome than ever. If you would like to become an active volunteer you will be welcome with open arms especially if you have any engineering skills. Please get in touch via email with Matt Cambourne. Our 2009 running dates are now on the website. Further details will be provided nearer the time. Please feel free to get in touch in the meantime with your comments, questions and suggestions. Keep visiting the website for the very latest on progress both on shed at Williton and in terms of planned Diesel running. Have a very Happy New Year and we look forward to seeing you around in 2009. |
