| Update 7th Jan. On Saturday, Paul B arrived with his tape measure and has defined the hardwood sections required to fix the cab trim to the metal framework. The trim includes the fibreglass mouldings, headcode panels and windscreen wiper motors. Roy gave the last few of the fibreglass mouldings a coat of undercoat. The main reservoir safety valve has been replaced by a modern unit but it has a pleasing brass finish! The unit previously fitted was set to blow at 170psi rather than the required 115psi and it was not deemed practical or cost effective to have it professionally re-adjusted. A second unit has also been ordered to replace the one in 33 048 which is known to be a bit dodgy. New connections have arrived to install the windscreen wiper motors and a more modern design of weather seal is to be used for the drive shafts. The tap for the No.1 cab air water trap has been successfully re-seated as it has been blowing by. On Sunday, the old copper piping from the winscreen wiper motors to the control valves was removed as it was considered to be beyond further usage. It will be replaced with equivalent modern nylon tubing. The control valves were checked for operation and freed as necessary. The main res drain tap has been blowing by so was removed for dismantling and re-seating. Although the situation has been improved by this action, the valve is still blowing slightly so may need some further attention. Brad has been contnuing his painting of the remaining pipe work around the outside of the loco. |
