| Update 6th June. By Ian Robins.
Paul B and Julien visited Cranmore on Thursday 3rd June to deliver some metal sections and other components that will be required during the work there. They report that work on the loco is progressing well and Paul took some pictures. All doors of the loco (including the engine room ones) have been removed for attention. Most of the remaining glazing has been removed from No.1 cab together with the engine room windows. One side the loco between the cab doors has been needle-gunned down to good metal and corroded material around the radiator grille area has been cut out and repaired. Excellent progress indeed! Back at Williton, the stator from No.1 exhauster has been flushed through with electrical cleaning fluid and revealed the windings to be sound. Once dried out, the interior of the motor will be coated with anti-tracking varnish. West Somerset Restoration are performing welding repairs to the corroded No.1 headcode assembly. Luckily the one from No.2 end was undamaged so they have been able to use that as a pattern. The repaired ex No.2 traction motor is expected to be delivered back to Williton during the coming week. |
