| Update 18th June Restoration of the cabs proceeds and Dick H has painted the rear wall of No.1 cab in undercoat. A couple of the bolts holding the engine room door securing flaps have sheared and Mark A is drilling them out and re-tapping the holes to 1/2" BSF. Apprentice Bradley has cleaned debris left over from the bodywork repairs out from under the desk in No.1 cab. The replacement windscreen has finally arrived and Paul B is going to try and fit it ASAP! The windscreen wiper installation has been investigated. The damaged wiper motor shafts were repaired by WS Restoration but all the spline adaptors for the wiper arms were either damaged or lost. Following some research, I found a supplier for these and procured quantity ten of them in order to have some spares. They are quite small and easily lost during wiper maintenance! New wiper arms and blades will need to be ordered. The internal pipework from the wiper controllers to the motors is in a generally bad state so it is proposed to replace this with plastic flexible piping. The defective No.1 cab FV3 Auto Air Brake Valve was removed and will be sent away for assessment and overhaul during the coming week. The incoming pipes to the valve will be temporarily blanked off to allow other testing to be performed whilst the FV3 is away. It is rumoured that an attempt to install the overhauled engine heat exchanger will be made next weekend. Once that is in, the cooling system can be filled and hopefully the engine can be started! |
