| Update 21st May Tony T-B has now finished fitting the aluminium edging to the first set of floor panels destined for No.2 cab. This has been done to a very high standard. Dick H has completed painting on two of the Control Cubicle back panels (including the one for the Field Divert resistance bay) with two coats of "Swanage Sand" paint applied and a single coat on the other two so far. Paul B has rubbed down and primed the frame that the panels fit into and also the metal work in front of the desk in No.2 cab. With help from John Cooke and Martin F the batteries were connected up and charged. Couldn't resist some action so ran the compressor for about half a minute to test them, the Triple Pump Fuse being left out out to prevent a possible deluge of oil as the heat exchanger is still missing! I investigated the suspected earth fault noted the previous week. The problem turned out to be on wire 12 at No.1 end only and I traced it to the secondmans anti-slip switch having fallen apart and touching the structure. I disconnected the cables from the switch and taped them to isolate the fault for the time being. We had an almost identical fault on 33 048 in the early days and this is a common problem on Class 33s. The two-way engine room light is now working following cleaning of the contacts in the switch in No.1 cab. |
