As has been well publicised, D1661 or 47840 'North Star' will end its mainline career on Bank holiday 28th May with a railtour from Derby-Minehead run by Heartland Rail.
The loco is now officially owned by the DEPG and quite lot of work has been and is being progressed.
The loco has now finished working for First Great Western.

Nameplates and cab side plates removed, loco to under frame cleaning area this weekend. Both cabs have been stripped - literally! photos attached show the cabs stripped, all covers, plates, name plaque etc have been removed for either replacement of repaint. The nose end headcode boxes have been wired up and are ready to install. The cut out in the nose was riveted in and is to be removed Tuesday, rubbing down commencing tuesday as well. Some electrical rewiring and making good also happening. Buffer beams will be red underframe black. More pics next week on progress.
