Following a council meeting today, the new messroom was officially opened by the West Somerset Railways Chairman Mark Smith and our Chairman Bob Tiller. Mark payed tribute to the excellent work carried out by the team and this new facility should be seen as a model for others on the railway.
Mark also took the opportunity to present the D&EPG with a certificate as a way of saying thank you for consistently providing diesel locomotives on a number of days in the mid part of 2008. As you probably are aware, there were some problems with the rails during this time meaning the steam service had to be reduced to avoid excessive wheel flange wear. The D&EPG came to the rescue providing efficient cover whilst this problem was being resolved. The certificate to show the WSRs gratitude can been seen below and this will be proudly displayed in the new messroom.
