| 33 057 - Thursday 18th March at Brush Traction, Loughborough. Special Report by Ian Robins
On that date, I joined former DEPG Chairman Bob Tiller at the Brush facility to witness the loco being lifted off its bogies. By the time that we arrived, Brush personnel had already disconnected all cables, pipework, rodding etc on both bogies ready for the lift. Initially the weight of the loco was taken just enough to raise the bogie springs and an inspection was made to check all was satisfactory. With the ok given, the loco body was then lifted fully aloft leaving the bogies where they stood and the lifting gantry then traversed the body down the workshop and planted it onto stands. The fire damaged No.2 traction motor will now be changed for a fully overhauled spare that DEPG held in stock and repair work to underframe structure damaged by the fire will be performed as well as some general cleaning/painting of the affected areas. The fire damaged No.2 traction motor wiring (removed some time ago) will also be replaced. It is expected that the loco will remain at Brush for approximately one month. Further updates will be posted as information becomes available. The pictures show the lifting process and views of the bogies and underframe area. Photography is not normally allowed by Brush but permission was obtained to take and publish the ones here as long as they did not include too much detail of the other interesting vehicles also present in the workshop! May I pay a big thank you to Brush Traction for allowing the work to be undertaken at their Loughborough facility and to Bob Tiller for organising the whole thing. |
