The DEPG regret to announce that Hymek D7017 will not be appearing at this years West Somerset Railway’s Grand Trains Extravaganza (22nd-23rd Oct) due to the discovery of a leaking cylinder head discovered when the loco was being prepared for a loaded test run on Sat 8th October. The test run was due to test the transmission repairs to the loco. The locos fitness to run has been withdrawn and it will be ‘winterised’ within the next few days. This is the third cylinder head problem in two years on the loco and the engine has high engine hours so the decision has been taken to carry out a topside overhaul in early 2006. A light body overhaul and repaint will also be undertaken. The loco will appear for ‘peak timetable’ services in July/August 2006.
